The Horizontal Venus Abel ( Umbilicus horizontalis ), also A horizontal umbilical herb called, is a plant from the genus of Venus Abel ( umbilicus ) within the family of Crassulaceae (Crassulaceae).

Vegetative characteristics
The horizontal Venus navel is a perennial herbaceous plant that is 10 to 50 centimeters high. The above-ground parts of the plant are bare. The basal leaves are fleshy, 2 to 5 centimeters wide, shield-shaped, navel-like sunk and notched at the stem base. The stem leaves become smaller towards the top.
Generative characteristics
The flowering period extends from May to June. Half of the stems are covered with more or less sessile flowers protruding horizontally from the stem .
The hermaphrodite flowers are five-fold with a double flower envelope . the crown is jug-shaped, 4 to 7 millimeters long, greenish-white, spotted with red or completely red. The corolla lobes are significantly shorter than the corolla tube.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 48.
Occurrence
The horizontal navel of Venus i. e. S. ( Umbilicus horizontalis var. Horizontalis ) occurs in the Azores and in the Mediterranean area on Corsica , Sardinia , Sicily , Malta , in Italy , Croatia , Bosnia and Herzegovina , Montenegro , Albania , Bulgaria , Greece , on Crete , Cyprus , on the islands of the Aegean Sea, Egypt and the Sinai Peninsula . It thrives in shady crevices and on walls.
Systematics
It was first described in 1826 under the name ( Basionym ) Cotyledon horizontalis by Giovanni Gussone in Ind. Sem. Horto Boccad. , 1826, page 4. The new combination to Umbilicus horizontalis (cast.) DC. was published in 1828 by Augustin-Pyrame de Candolle in Prodromus systematis naturalis regni vegetabilis ... , Volume 3, page 400. Synonyms of Umbilicus horizontalis (cast.) DC. are Umbilicus vulgaris Bones and Cotyledon umbilicus-veneris subsp. horizontalis (cast.) Batt.
Some authors distinguish between two varieties:
- Umbilicus horizontalis (cast.) DC. var. horizontalis
- Umbilicus horizontalis var. Intermedius (Boiss.) Chamberlain . This variety is also called Umbilicus intermedius Boiss in its own right . viewed. It occurs in Turkey , Syria , Palestine , Iran and Egypt.
