The Real Venus Abel ( Umbilicus rupestris ), also hung navel herb called, is a plant of the genus Venus Abel ( umbilicus ) within the family of the Crassulaceae (Crassulaceae).
description
Vegetative characteristics
The real Venus navel is a perennial herbaceous plant that reaches heights of 10 to 50 centimeters. The upright and mostly unbranched stem is bare.
The alternate leaves are arranged in a petiole and a leaf blade. In the basal leaves, the leaf stalks are sunk like a umbilicus in the middle of the leaf blade and the fleshy leaf blade is shield-shaped, round in outline with a few notches. The stem leaves become smaller and smaller towards the top, they are usually kidney-shaped, serrated, the uppermost sometimes linear.
Generative characteristics
The flowering period extends from May to July. Sometimes branched at the base, racemose inflorescence takes more than half of the total height of the genuine Venus Abels one is relatively long and contains many flowers. The mostly pendulous flowers are arranged quite densely in the inflorescence. The bracts are usually linear and about as long as the flower stalks. The flower stalks are 3 to 9 millimeters long.
The hermaphroditic flowers are radial symmetry and five-fold with a double flower envelope . The five relatively small sepals that are fused at their base are egg-shaped with a pointed upper end. The five whitish, straw-colored or reddish tinted, often spotted, petals are fused to form a 7 to 10 millimeter long, cylindrical corolla tube. The corn tube is about four times longer than the corolla lobes. The five relatively short corolla lobes are egg-shaped with a staschel-pointed upper end. The stylus is relatively long.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 48.

Taxonomy
It was first published in 1753 under the name ( Basionym ) Cotyledon umbilicus-veneris by Carl von Linné in Species Plantarum , page 429. In the genus Umbilicus DC. but the species name umbilicus-veneris could not be used because a tautonym would arise here . One therefore had to fall back on the next oldest specific epithet rupestris , which was published by Richard Anthony Salisbury in 1796 as Cotyledon rupestris in Prodromus Stirpium in Horto ad Chapel Allerton vigentium ... Londini , page 307. This species was therefore not until 1948 with this species name by James Edgar Dandy in Harry Riddelsdell , Joseph Hedley , George Ward Price , William Robert : Flora of Gloucestershire; phanerogams, vascular cryptogams, charophyta. Cheltenham , page 611 in the genus Umbilicus DC. posed. Other synonyms for Umbilicus rupestris (Salisb.) Dandy are: Umbilicus vulgaris Bones , Cotyledon pendulina (DC.) Batt. , Cotyledon tuberosa (L.) Halácsy , Umbilicus pendulinus DC. , Cotyledon umbilicus-veneris subsp. pendulina (DC.) Batt.
