Union Youth was a German band that was founded in 2001 in Bad Bentheim , Lower Saxony .

history

The band was made up of remnants of the band Jonas (Maze Valentin: guitar and vocals, Jon Orion: guitar) and the band Once on Mars (Nobse K .: bass, Bowy: drums).

They became known through two appearances in the opening act of the band Bush in July 2002 in Düsseldorf and Hamburg. They signed a contract with the major label Eastwest . In 2002 her album The Royal Gene was released in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. A tour with bands such as Beatsteaks , Mclusky , Die Ärzte , Zwan , Gluecifer and A followed . In 2003 the maxi CD Fruits for the Nation was released .

Her second album The Boring Years was released in 2005 on the Roadrunner Records label . In another period between 2003 and 2005, four digital bootlegs were released, which were available on the band's official website. These include "Live in Berlin", "Live in Cologne", "Live in Dortmund" and "Southside 2003".

On January 1st, 2006 Union Youth announced the end of the band on their homepage. In the summer of the same year, a collection of unreleased recordings and a live version were released on their own label, Karo International Records .

Afterlife

After the band break up, some band members take part in various music projects such as SPQRT, Punch Department, KEN or Pictures. Guitarist Orion now creates guitar effects ("Orion Effects").

In 2017 the documentary Kings of the World - We were kings by the two directors Christian von Brockhausen and Timo Großpietsch was released , which sheds light on the band history of Union Youth and was shown at the 2017 Berlinale .

Pictures was founded as a follow-up band with Maze (Exler, vocals, guitar) and Bowy (Michael Borwitzky, drums) in 2015, who released their second album Hysteria in 2019 .
