The Air Force Reserve Command (AFRC) is the Air Force Reserve of the United States Air Force (USAF) and forms with the Air National Guard (ANG) the Reserve Force of USAF. The AFRC is one of the ten main commands of the USAF and is headquartered at Robins Air Force Base , Georgia . Commander has been Lieutenant General Charles E. Stenner Jr. since June 24, 2008 .

When a national emergency is declared in the USA (State of Emergency) or for war missions, the reserve units can be mobilized and assigned to the Air Combat Command (ACC) , the Air Mobility Command (AMC) or the Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC) assigned to support the regular air force.

Planes

As of September 30, 2007, the AFRC had around 400 aircraft of various types, mainly transporters ( C-5 , C-17 and C-130 ), tankers ( KC-135 , HC-130) and combat aircraft ( F-16 , ( O) A-10 ). There are also some bombers ( B-52 ), aircraft for reconnaissance and special operations ( MC-130 ) and helicopters ( HH-60 ). Some aircraft, such as the Boeing E-3 AWACS and the MQ-1 Predator , are shared by the AFRC with active USAF units.

At the end of September 2007 the AFRC had a total of around 130,000 reservists; 71,000 of them practice regularly and are ready for use within 72 hours (Selected Reserve) , another 49,000 are ready for use without practicing (Individual Ready Reserve) and 10,000 belong to the standby reserve without permanent affiliation to a unit.

history

The Continental Air Command , founded on December 1, 1948, was originally responsible for the reserve units of the USAF, but was replaced by the Air Force Reserve on August 1, 1968 . After several changes in organizational status, the Air Force Reserve Command (AFRC) has existed since February 17, 1997 as the youngest of nine USAF main commands.
