The Munich University Choir (spelling UniversitätsChor ) consists of around 200 students and members of the academic mid-level staff from all faculties of the Ludwig Maximilians University and the Technical University of Munich .

history

The choir was founded in 1950 by Wilhelm Gebhardt, then under the name Collegium Musicum Vocale. From 1969 to 2002 Hans Rudolf Zöbeley was the conductor of the university choir , from 2003 to 2013 Johannes Kleinjung . Verena Egger has been leading the choir since mid-2013.

program

The choir is mainly dedicated to the great choral symphonies of the Romantic and Modern periods. The program also includes works that are rarely performed, such as Tippett's "A Child of Our Time", Britten's "Cantata Misericordium" or Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Requiem" . Demanding a cappella programs are also rehearsed at regular intervals. In addition, the choir is also dedicated to well-known and popular choral literature.

As part of the Orff Festival in Andechs Monastery , the university choir and the Munich Symphony Orchestra performedCarmina Burana ” by Carl Orff and “Misa Criolla” by Ariel Ramírez five times. 2008–2015, the university choir performed the original score of the Lord of the Rings trilogy together with the Munich Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Ludwig Wicki in the Philharmonie am Gasteig live to project the film.

The choir also makes guest appearances with other orchestras in the major Munich concert halls such as the Herkulessaal , the Prinzregententheater or the Philharmonie am Gasteig .

Tours

Concert tours went to Bologna in spring 2003 , to Pisa and Florence in autumn 2004 and to Paris in autumn 2005 . In autumn 2010 the choir went to northern Italy and gave concerts in Schenna and Parma . The 2011 concert tour went to Hungary with concerts in Győr and Budapest . In 2012 the choir made guest appearances in Slovenia with a concert in Ljubljana and Croatia with concerts in Zagreb and Gornja Stubica.
