The Unja ( Russian У́нья ) is a left tributary of the Pechora in the extreme southeast of the Komi Republic in northwestern Russia .
The Unja rises in the Northern Urals . It flows in a predominantly westerly direction through the western foothills of the Urals and finally turns north. After 163 km it flows into the upper reaches of the Pechora on the left. In the lower reaches it has numerous meanders . The Unja is ice-covered between late October / early November and late April. The mean discharge at the Berdish gauge 39 km above the mouth is 47 m³ / s. Larger tributaries of the Unja are Kissunja and Umpol, both from the left. During the snowmelt in May, the Unja has a monthly mean of 200 m³ / s. Salmon spawn in the river .
