Unleashed Memories ( Engl. For Unleashed Memories ) is the second studio album by the Italian alternative metal band Lacuna Coil . It was released on January 18, 2001 by Century Media .

Origin and content

The band developed the new material in the summer of 2000. In October of the same year the band went to the Woodhouse Studio in Hagen , where recordings began under the direction of producer Waldemar Sorychta .

"To Live Is to Hide" describes that it is hardly possible for people to realize themselves because society has set too many rules. "Senzafine" is a re-recording of the song from the Half Life - EP . Compared to the EP, the song contains a slightly different text. In addition, the song is arranged as it was originally written. The band never exactly explained the meaning of the song title "1.19". According to Cristina Scabbia , the title describes the distance between two courses. Cristina Scabbia wrote the song "Distant Sun" for a friend who tragically lost someone close to her.

reception

The album received positive reviews from the trade press. The German magazine Metal Hammer named Unleashed Memories "Album of the Month". According to Robert Müller, the band manages to “make metal that sounds gothic, emotional and darkly melancholy without following the well-trodden path”. According to Wolfgang Schäfer from Rock Hard , the band “has not only developed musically, but has also matured audibly as a songwriter”. Schäfer awarded nine out of ten points. Andy Hinds from the online magazine Allmusic wrote in his review that the band “was able to break out of the stylistic straitjacket ”.

Unleashed Memories entered the German album charts at number 72 and was the first Lacuna Coil album to reach a chart position.
