Dark Adrenaline is the sixth studio album by the Italian alternative metal band Lacuna Coil . It was released on January 27, 2012 via Century Media .

Emergence

At the end of 2010, the band began work on their sixth album. Due to a shoulder injury , bassist Marco Coti Zelati was unable to play concerts and worked out his first ideas at home. The musicians decided to work again with the American producer Don Gilmore. Most of the recordings took place in Milan . Only the vocals and keyboards were recorded in Gilmore's Los Angeles studio.

Since the band was dissatisfied with the mix of the previous album Shallow Life , this time Marco Barusso mixed the album. Barusso previously worked with artists such as Coldplay and Eros Ramazzotti . Despite being a huge metal fan , Barusso has never been able to work with a metal band. With Losing My Religion the album contains a cover version of a REM song. The song My Spirit is dedicated to the Type-O-Negative singer Peter Steele , who died in 2010 .

According to Ronny Bittner from the German magazine Rock Hard , the album contains “some compositional highlights”, but criticized the fact that the album “sounds too smooth and somehow irrelevant for long periods” and awarded 7.5 out of ten points. Sebastian Kessler of the German magazine Metal Hammer described Lacuna Coil with this album as a "less sweet version of Evanescence ". His colleague Matthias Weckmann described Dark Adrenaline as a barrier-free album that “doesn't get stuck” and awarded it four out of seven points.

Dark Adrenaline reached number 15 in the US album charts and number 18 in the band's home country, Italy . The album was number 36 in Germany , number 48 in the United Kingdom and number 53 in Switzerland . The album was not placed in Austria .
