In a Reverie ( engl. For in a dreaming ) is the first album of the Italian alternative metal band lacuna coil . It was released on February 16, 1999 via Century Media .

Origin and background

After the debut EP released in 1997 , Raffaele Zagaria, Claudio Leo and Leonardo Forti left the band. They have been replaced by Cristiano Migliore and Cristiano Mozzate. With the new line-up, the band first went on tour as a support act for Moonspell and The Gathering , which, according to singer Cristina Scabbia, had a positive effect on the group. The song material developed in the summer of 1998 was harder and less progressive than the titles on the EP.

The music was written by Marco Coti Zelati and Cristiano Migliore, the lyrics by Cristina Scabbia and Andrea Ferro. The recordings took place in October and November 1998 in the Woodhouse Studios in Hagen . The album was produced by Waldemar Sorychta , who also wrote the music for the song To Myself I Turned . Falling Again is a re-recording of the song Falling from the debut EP.

Müller rated the album with five out of seven points. Boris Kaiser the German magazine Rock Hard is in a reverie of "perfect soundtrack for the first rays of sunshine," adding that "gothic metal [sic] has never been happier." Kaiser awarded 8.5 out of ten points. Allmusic's Steve Huey described Lacuna Coil as a heavier version of Heart and called In a Reverie a "fine debut from a band to watch out for."
