Günther Doberenz

Günther Doberenz (born November 25, 1923 in Chemnitz ; † 1999 ) was a German diplomat . He was the GDR's ambassador in Kuwait .

Life

The trained businessman Doberenz was called up for military service during World War II and was taken prisoner by the British .

After returning from captivity, he worked as a teacher . From 1958 to 1961 was the deputy director of the pedagogical school for kindergarten teachers in Waldenburg . In 1956 he became chairman of the working group of the German League for the United Nations in Karl-Marx-Stadt and was also a member of the League Presidium from 1956 to 1960.

In 1961, Doberenz joined the GDR diplomatic service, initially from 1961 to 1963 as a senior employee of the Southeast Asia Department in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the GDR (MfAA), responsible for Cambodia , then from 1964 to 1966 as acting head of the trade mission in Calcutta . 1967/1968 he acted as acting head of department at the Institute for International Relations of the German Academy for Political Science and Law in Potsdam-Babelsberg . In 1968/69 he worked again in the MfAA. It was 1969 at the Martin Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg on "The American Middle East policy from 1956 to 1958" to Dr. phil. PhD . From October 1969 to 1972 he was Consul General in Sanaa in the Yemeni Arab Republic . Then he worked again as a sector manager in the MfAA. Doberenz was ambassador to Kuwait City from September 1975 to August 1982 . He then returned to the MfAA and was a scientific advisor in the Near and Middle East department .

Doberenz was a member of the SED .
