Unterhart is a district of Sankt Martin im Mühlkreis and is located in the very south of the municipality and the Rohrbach district . The village borders directly on Landshaag in the Urfahr area .
The designation "Unterhart" goes back to the Old High German field name Hart = "Siedlung am Wald". To distinguish between the names Oberhart and Unterhart were introduced in the 13th century. Tools from the Bronze Age were found near the Geißkirche , which indicate a very early settlement. In addition, a medieval salt road runs through the middle of Unterhart towards the Bohemian Forest . The Hart was first mentioned in writing in the 13th century in the land register of the Passau monastery of St. Nikola.
