Career

During her school days, Schele was a group leader at the Association of Christian Scouts and Scouts eV (VCP) . As a student representative at the Graf-Friedrich-Schule high school, she founded the first Diepholz youth center. After graduating from high school in 1975, she studied German, sports and history as well as special education at the Christian Albrechts University (CAU) in Kiel. The women's center, of which she was the first tenant, and the women's refuge in Kiel were founded during this time. From this emerged in 1979 the "emergency call and advice for women", in whose establishment Schele played a major role. In 1983, Schele passed the 2nd state examination and studied pedagogy while working.

From 1985 to 1989 Schele worked as a teacher. 1983 to 1986 at elementary schools, in 1986 she was managing director of the culture and pub project "Plunschli" in Husby near Flensburg, where she organized concerts, theater and film events that attracted attention far beyond Flensburg. After the birth of her daughter, she was involved in setting up the children's stores "Wühlmäuse" and "Zebulon" in Kiel. From 1989 Schele also worked as an education officer for the women's emergency number in Kiel. Schele has headed the PETZE prevention office since 1993 , which started in 1993 with a three-year BLK model test. Schele organized the first EU- wide symposium on the subject of advanced training for teachers in the field of sexual abuse for all (1993: 15) EU countries. In 1997 she played a key role in founding and developing the center for victims of torture, flight and violence in Schleswig-Holstein, REFUGIO e. V. and was first chairwoman of the association for 10 years. From 1999 she built the “Federal Networking Agency for Autonomous Women's Emergency Call BaF”, now the Federal Association of Women's Advice Centers and Women's Emergency Calls - Women against Violence (bff) e. V. where she has been honorary chairwoman since 2007. Schele has been the managing director of the PETZE Institute for Violence Prevention gGmbH since 2009 . From 2010 to 2011 she was a delegate of the bff at the round table abuse of the federal government . From 2011 to 2014 she was the ombudsman for the Northern Church on the subject of abuse in church institutions. Between 2010 and 2020, Schele is a consultant for the "National Training Offensive" of the German Society for Prevention and Intervention in Child Abuse (DGfPI) and the Federal Ministry for Family, Seniors, Women and Youth (BMFSFJ) in the BuFo and BeST (youth and disability aid ) projects . In addition, she was twice a member of the NDR Broadcasting Council for the LFSH , most recently from 2012 to 2017.

Political positions

Violence against women

"I have been working against sexual violence for almost 35 years now and to ensure that the no to violence finally turns into a real YES for sexual self-determination of every single person. That is why it is important to me to point out the indispensable work of women's advice centers and women's shelters. Work for decades Committed women to support other women, to offer them protection, to find help, to open up perspectives, to listen to them and to enable healing. The 160 specialist advice centers that are part of the federal association have an impressive range of qualifications about quality, counseling and prevention concepts for all forms of gender-specific violence. The work of the specialist agencies has increased over the years. The financing has not grown with it. Experiences with violence, forced marriage and forced prostitution, discrimination, disadvantages are topics that we in the counseling centers experience daily. None of this would be possible without the commitment of the counselors and therapists. Our roots are in political volunteering and in the women's movement. To this day, the civic engagement of thousands of women is the core of our movement. We have to approach our issues more structurally in the next few years. Distribute the tasks on more shoulders. Together we should work to ensure that the responsibility for a gender-equitable world of tomorrow lies with civil society as a whole and not with women alone or even with women’s advice centers. "

# MeToo debate

"Sexuality has nothing to do with sexism" and "Every institution has its Weinstein"

“I don't think the industry is very different in Hollywood. We experience this in churches, schools, at work, in politics and with the police. There is a culture that enables the breeding ground for sexual violence. "

“Sex is when both of you want to. Everything else is violence "

Sexual abuse of children and wards

“The PETZE brought the taboo subject of 'sexual abuse' to the public. Today daycare centers or schools are no longer sweeping sexual violence under the carpet. "

Violence prevention

“The work of the PETZE is not limited to advice and support for adult victims of sexual violence. We have also been active in the field of prevention since 1989. We focus on strengthening children and young people. The six tried and tested PETZE prevention exhibitions, which have wandered through the north, throughout Germany, Switzerland and even as far as Mozambique and Iran under labels such as 'Echt Klasse', 'Echt Stark', etc., are particularly clearly visible.

Every year around 80,000 children and young people learn what their rights are, how they can protect themselves against attacks and that they are, most importantly, 'the most valuable thing in the world'. "

Awards

In 2000, Schele was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon for voluntary, women's political work for victims.
