Ursula van Rienen

Ursula van Rienen , b. Götte (born May 2, 1957 in Düsseldorf ) is a university professor for theoretical electrical engineering at the University of Rostock . Her main research interests are the interaction of electromagnetic fields with biological tissue and the electromagnetic fields in accelerator physics .

Professional career

Ursula van Rienen visited the school Marienberg in Neuss and studied from 1976 to 1983 at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelm University in Bonn Mathematics , minor in physics and operations research . The topic of her diploma thesis in applied mathematics was the " Numerical solution of linear systems of equations under a priori accuracy specifications with applications in network theory ". From 1983 to 1989 she worked as a doctoral candidate and research assistant at the German Electron Synchrotron Foundation (DESY) in Hamburg . She received her doctorate at the Technical University of Darmstadt in the mathematics department with her dissertation on the subject of "For the numerical calculation of time-harmonic electromagnetic fields in open, cylinder-symmetrical structures using multi-lattice methods ". From 1990 to 1995 she was a research assistant at the Technical University of Darmstadt (today TU Darmstadt) at the chair for theoretical electrical engineering. From 1995 to 1997 she received a habilitation grant from the German Research Foundation (DFG). In 1997 Ursula van Rienen received the Venia Legendi for the subjects of theoretical electrical engineering and scientific computing at the department of electrical engineering and information technology at the TH Darmstadt . For her habilitation thesis (linear systems of equations in numerical field calculation) she received the 1999 prize of the Association of Friends of the Technical University of Darmstadt eV (Ernst-Ludwigs-Hochschulgesellschaft).

In 1997 she was offered a professorship at the University of Rostock , where she holds the chair for theoretical electrical engineering. From 2004 to 2006 she was dean of the faculty for computer science and electrical engineering at the University of Rostock. From 2006 to 2008 she was chair of the Faculty Conference for Electrical Engineering and Information Technology. From 2009 to 2013 she was Vice Rector for Research and Research Training. She worked in various bodies and commissions of the DFG and the German Rectors' Conference (HRK) as well as other scientific institutions. In 2010 she was made a member of AcademiaNet . She has been an elected member of the German Academy of Science and Engineering acatech since 2017 .

Research activity

The main focus of Ursula van Rienen's research lies in the numerical solution of partial differential equations and linear systems of equations in various areas of application. Since completing her doctorate, she has been dealing with scientific issues relating to electromagnetic field calculation in accelerator physics . In addition to other fields of application from electrical engineering, scientific simulation studies in biomedical engineering were added. From 2008 to 2017 she was the spokesperson for the DFG-funded graduate college 1505: Analysis and simulation of electrical interactions between implants and biosystems . Since 2017 she has been the spokesperson for the DFG-funded Collaborative Research Center 1270: Electrically Active Implants .
