Urszula

Urszula Kasprzak (born February 7, 1960 in Lublin ) is a Polish rock / pop singer , better known as Urszula .

Live and act

As a child, Urszula played the piano and accordion . She also attended the Lublin song study (Studium Piosenki). In 1977 she took part as an amateur at the Festival of Soviet Songs (Festiwal Piosenki Radzieckiej) in Zielona Góra . She won the main prize, the Golden Samovar with the song Kopciuszek ( Cinderella )

In 1978 she took part in the debut concert of the Polish Song Festival in Opole , famous in Poland , without much success.

Urszula stopped singing and began studying at the Maria Curie Skłodowska University in Lublin . She was invited to the Song Contest Festival in Sopot in 1980 to sing along as a supporter. At the same time she recorded six songs in Poznan , together with the later frontman of the group Klincz Ryszard Kniat . She also supported the nursery rhyme singer Majka Jeżowska in the choir on Majka's first record.

The turn of the year 1981/1982 was a breakthrough for Urszula. Romuald Lipko , the front man of the Budka Suflera group, which is still very popular today, composed a few songs for Urszula. They were recorded on June 15, 1982 in the Poznan studio of the Polish radio ( Polskie Radio ): Fatamorgana '82 , Bogowie i demony ( gods and demons ) and Luz blues w niebie same dziury ( loose blues, sky full of holes ). With Fatamorgana '82 , which ran on the radio's third program, Urszula rose to the station's charts within a week in July 1982.

From 1983 to 1987 Urszula worked with the Budka Suflera group. It should be stressed, however, that she was never the group's vocalist. At the concerts it was always said “Urszula and / in the company of Budka Suflera”.

In 1983 the first record Urszula came out. The young artist was also successful abroad: she won second place at the Festival of the Baltic States in Karlsham , Sweden , and she received the prize of the magazine Mlada fronta at the Intertalent '83 festival in Prague . Her song Dmuchawce, latawce, wiatr ("Löwenzähne, Drachen, Wind") became the "biggest hit of the year" in the competition of Polish radio and television.

In 1984 Urszula made a cinema debut. She played herself in the film Alabama by Ryszard Rydzewski . Together with Budka Suflera she performed songs from the record Malinowy król .

In the spring of 1985, the second album planned for 1984 came out late - Malinowy Król ("Raspberry- colored King"). In the same year Urszula appeared in the musical Żeglując w dobry czas by Katarzyna Gaertner and in the film Och Karol by Roman Załuski . The film song Baw mnie ( Amuse me ), sung with Seweryn Krajewski , became the next hit.

In 1986 the third album Urszula 3 was released . Also this year Urszula starred in a film - the television crime series Na kłopoty Bednarski by Paweł Karpiński . She also met her future husband Stanisław Zybowski.

In February 1987 Urszula went on a tour to the USA . There she performed in the Beacon Theater on Broadway , in the Red Parrot (well-known disco in Manhattan ), in the Polish club Polonez in Chicago , in the Cardinale Club , as well as at universities in Philadelphia , Washington, DC , Detroit , Chicago, New York and Boston on. In the same year she gave birth to her first son Piotr.

In 1988 Urszula returned to Poland and in 1989 released the first Polish CD of light music , The Best of Urszula & Budka Suflera , which was recorded at Rock Studio, New York. Her last record, Czwarty raz ( The Fourth Time ), was released in Poland and was recorded without Budka Suflera. Urszula's husband was the producer. On this album Urszula sings her own lyrics for the first time. In the same year she made music with the Klincz group .

In 1989 Urszula performed at the “Polska Promocja” concert at the international song festival in Sopot - but here with a new band Jumbo , whose front man was her husband Stanisław.

Urszula spent the years 1990 to 1994 in the USA, where she performed for Polish and American audiences. In Poland itself it was somewhat forgotten. The next albums were released during this time: Urszula & Jumbo (1992) Best of Budka Suflera & Urszula (1992) and Greatest Hits of Urszula (1992) for the 10th anniversary of the artist.

Urszula made a comeback in 1994 when she accompanied the group Budka Suflera on their US tour. She came back to Poland. Her new album Biała droga , presented on March 21, 1996 at Klub Tango , was enthusiastically received and quickly awarded a gold record and later platinum . Urszula performed in Opole and Sopot, and also took part in the “Przystanek Woodstock” concert, which was held at an airport near Szczecin for 30,000 people . While performing, she collected material for the album Urszula akustycznie ( Urszula - acoustic ), which premiered on December 6, 1996.

The album Supernova , presented on November 23, 1998 , soon went platinum.

On April 26, 2001, the long-awaited LP Udar ( Anfall ) was released. On August 25th, during the Sopot Festival, Urszula was honored with the Amber Nightingale (Bursztynowy Słowik), the highest prize this festival can award.

Her husband Stanisław, suffering from cancer, died in November 2001, but Urszula continued her musical career.

On June 17, 2002, the double album The Best , which Urszula had prepared with her husband for the 20th anniversary, was released. This was honored with a gold record.

Before Christmas 2002, Urszula's first Christmas carol album was released - as a supplement to the women's magazine Przyjaciółka .

After the husband's death, Urszula entered into a relationship with Tomasz Kujawski, who became the father of their second son Szymon in May 2003.
