The Usas Escarpment is an extended, discontinuous north-facing terrain level in the West Antarctic Marie Byrd Land . It is around 320 km long and extends roughly parallel to the 76th parallel to the south, from where its snow cover drops in the direction of the Ruppert and Hobbs coasts . The terrain level includes the northern slopes of the Flood Range , the Ames Range , the McCuddin Mountains and in the east the peaks of Mount Galla , Mount Aldaz and Benes Peak .
The ground level was of members of the U nited S tates A ntarctic S ervice ( USAS ), it was eventually named after their acronym discovered 1939-1941. The original designation as 76th Parallel Escarpment based on the geographical location did not prevail.
