Utjeha ( Cyrillic Утјеха , also Utjeha-Bušat ) is a small resort in the municipality of Bar , about 10 km south of the city center of Bar in Montenegro .

geography

Utjeha is located on the Uvala Maslina bay in the southern part of the Montenegrin Adriatic coast , exactly in the middle between the two cities of Bar and Ulcinj and is easily accessible via the Adriatic coastal road (Jadranska Magistrala) . The proximity of the over 1500 m high Rumija Mountains , the foothills of which extend clearly to the east of the village, is also striking . The bay owes the name Uvala Maslina to the numerous olive groves that extend from the beach to far into the hinterland.

tourism

Tourism has a long tradition in the municipality of Bar and the associated places. Venetian countesses discovered the special charm of the region as early as the early 18th century . The first organized tourism groups came in 1890 from what is now the Czech Republic and Slovakia .

Utjeha beach in Uvala Maslina bay is 800 m long and consists of white pebbles. Fresh water wells up from the depths of the sea and mixes with the salty sea water to create unusual, light turquoise shades.

The beach area is developed for tourism and has restaurants, cafes and snack stands. As is usual in Montenegro, the beach is public and free to use.

Utjeha beach is one of 19 beaches in Montenegro that have been awarded the Blue Flag .

Around the bay there are mainly holiday apartments and houses, which are often used by the owners themselves in the summer months. There are no large hotel complexes. In contrast to other coastal towns such as B. Budva or Petrovac is rather quiet in the area.

There are numerous private accommodations (apartments, holiday flats, etc.), but the standard of the accommodations does not always meet today's needs. As a result of the Yugoslavia crisis in the 1990s, tourism came to a complete standstill and many accommodations were no longer modernized due to the lack of a source of income. Only since the independence of Montenegro in 2006 have the number of visitors returned to the previous values. In 2011, the first holiday home in Utjeha was awarded the highest classification for private accommodation in Montenegro ( 4 stars ). The classifications in Montenegro correspond to international standards.

The country's first holiday home with the highest award from the European Commission, the European Ecolabel EU Ecolabel , is also located in Utjeha. It is noteworthy here that, although Montenegro is not (yet) a member of the EU , in contrast to other countries of the former Yugoslavia, it has an accommodation facility with a Europe-wide recognized eco-label. The certification was carried out by the Austrian Federal Environment Minister Niki Berlakovich in February 2012.
