concept

On May 26, 2015, the Finnish broadcaster Yleisradio announced that Finland will again take part in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2016 and that the Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu will probably be used again as a preliminary decision. The submission phase for contributions to be included in the preliminary round began on September 1, 2015. According to the rules, at least one member of the act must be a Finnish citizen. The submission phase ended on September 8, 2015. On November 7, 2015 it was reported that Krista Siegfrids and Roope Salminen would host the shows. On January 12, 2016, the participating articles were presented to the press.

After the submission phase, a group of experts selected 18 entries that were allowed to compete in the preliminary rounds. These contributions were presented on January 30, 2016 in a preview show in which the best music video was selected by a jury consisting of Essi Hellén, Mikko Silvennoinen, Jaana Pelkonen and Tommi Manninen, and the audience. The jury chose Cristal Snow with Love is blind and Sandhja with Sing It Away as the winner, while the audience only chose Love is blind . The three preliminary rounds took place between February 6 and February 20, 2016. Here three out of six songs each qualified for the final, which took place on February 27, 2016. In the final, the winner was determined by 50% jury and 50% televoting.
