Uwe Becker (born July 31, 1969 in Bad Homburg in front of the height ) is a German politician ( CDU ). He is mayor and treasurer of the city of Frankfurt am Main , as well as the Hessian state government's representative for Jewish life and the fight against anti-Semitism .

Life

Uwe Becker grew up in the formerly independent community of Nieder-Eschbach , which has been a district of Frankfurt am Main since 1972. He graduated from high school at the Frankfurt drawing school . After completing basic military service , he learned the profession of banker at Frankfurter Sparkasse , where he worked as a personnel officer until 2004.

He began his political career in the Junge Union , where he became chairman of the Frankfurt / Northeast Association. In 1991 Uwe Becker became chairman of the CDU Nieder-Eschbach and led the association until 2007. From 1993 to 1995 he was parliamentary group leader of the CDU in local advisory board 15 (Nieder-Eschbach). In 1995 it moved into the city council in Frankfurt's Römer . From 1999 to 2001 he initially worked as deputy parliamentary group leader and in 2001 took over the chairmanship of the CDU parliamentary group in the Römer. Then he completely decided to switch full-time into politics and, in addition to the chairmanship from 2004 as managing director, also led the office of the CDU parliamentary group in Römer. On July 13, 2006, Uwe Becker was elected full-time city councilor of the city of Frankfurt am Main and was initially the department head for social affairs, youth and sport. In April 2007, he finally became city treasurer. In 2012, after the end of the first term of office, he was re-elected to the City of Frankfurt's Magistrate. On July 14, 2016, the Frankfurt city council elected him mayor of Frankfurt. At the same time, he continues to hold the office of city treasurer.

On April 8, 2019, the Hessian state government appointed him, in addition to his duties in Frankfurt, as the Hessian state government's representative for Jewish life and the fight against anti-Semitism in Hesse.

In the CDU, Uwe Becker was district chairman of the CDU Frankfurt am Main from 2012 to 2017 and has been deputy district chairman since then. Since 2006 he has been the state chairman of the Local Political Association (KPV) Hessen and deputy federal chairman of the KPV of Germany's CDU / CSU. He was accepted into the Presidium by the Hessian Association of Cities. He is also a member of the main committee of the German Association of Cities.

He is a member of the supervisory board of Messe Frankfurt GmbH, the energy company Mainova AG , a member of the supervisory board of Verkehrsgesellschaft VGF and Stadtwerke Frankfurt Holding as well as the supervisory board of the airport company Fraport AG.

Uwe Becker, he is active as President of the Friends of Tel Aviv University in Germany, as Governor on the Board of Governors of Tel Aviv University, as President of the German-Israeli Society and as Deputy Chairman of the German-Israeli Society in Frankfurt. He is also Honorary President of the German-French Society in Frankfurt and a member of the Presidium of the German-American Steuben-Schurz Society. In addition, he is a member of the Teutonic Order as a familiare .

He is a member of the executive committee of the Frankfurt Main Finance eV financial center initiative and a member of the program advisory board of rheinmain tv.

Furthermore, Uwe Becker u. a. the board of trustees of the Praunheimer Werkstätten Foundation, the Frankfurt Lebenshilfe Foundation, the board of AKIM Germany, the Friends of the Philosophical-Theological University of Sankt Georgen and the Great Convention of the Evangelical Academy in Frankfurt and is active in numerous other social, sporting and societal associations and foundations and institutions.
