Uwe Justus Wenzel

Uwe Justus Wenzel (* 1959 near Kassel ) is a German philosopher and journalist .

Life

Wenzel studied philosophy , sociology , politics , religion and law at the Georg-August-University of Goettingen and at the Free University of Berlin , where he in 1991 with a thesis on Immanuel Kant doctorate was. From 1991 to 1998 he worked in teaching and research at the Philosophical Department of the University of Basel . Since 1989 he has been the author of the NZZ, and since 1995 the editor in charge of the humanities in the features section . In September 2017 it was announced that the NZZ will part with him.

From 1994 to 1999 Wenzel was President of the Philosophical Society Basel . Until 2008 he was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Max Planck Institute for European Legal History . From 2007 to 2009 he was on the jury of the Leipzig Book Fair Prize . He is a member of the jury of the non-fiction book of the month of the Süddeutsche Zeitung and the Norddeutscher Rundfunk . Since 2010 he has been a member of the board of the Swiss Academy of Humanities and Social Sciences (SAGW).

In addition, he has been a lecturer at ETH Zurich since 2004 in the field of philosophy and history of knowledge.

In 2004 the SAGW awarded him the “Goldene Brille” media prize.
