The Uze is a right tributary of the Thur in the Swiss canton of St. Gallen . It drains a 13 square kilometer section of the Toggenburg , flowing through Oberuzwil and Uzwil and flowing 120 meters upstream of the Glatt estuary into the Thur at Niederuzwil .
The Uze is regularly the scene of floods in Uzwil and Niederuzwil, the largest of which occurred in 1664, 1778, 1876 and 1938. The last major flood took place in 1970.
The highest discharge in the period of measurements from 1987 to 2015 was reached on June 13, 1999 and August 8, 2007 with 19 m³ / s each.
Since the 1980s, the municipality of Uzwil has been planning the Uze relief tunnel , a protection against flooding . It was implemented from 2006 to 2008. This is intended to defuse the critical, because canalized, sections. The covered area in the area of Bühler AG is particularly critical . This should be able to ward off a hundred-year flood . The tunnel begins above the canalised sections, the drainage leads into the Glatt near Buchental in Oberbüren . A project that can lead the flood of the Hummelbach directly into the relief tunnel and thus to the Glatt (instead of through the Niederuzwil swimming pool to the Uze) was implemented at the same time.
