Víctor Sánchez del Amo , called Víctor , (born February 23, 1976 in Madrid , Spain ) is a former Spanish football player and current football coach .

career

The attacking midfielder began his career at the Spanish top club Real Madrid , where he even made it into the extended first team in 1998. After a year-long stint at Racing Santander , Víctor moved to Deportivo La Coruña in 1999 . In his first season he was with Deportivo champion of the Primera División 1999/2000 . Between 2000 and 2004 he was sporadic in the Spanish national team and played three games there. In the 2006/07 season, Víctor played for Panathinaikos Athens . He ended his playing career at FC Elche .

Since April 9, 2015, Víctor has been the coach of Deportivo La Coruña. At the end of the 2015/16 season , the club split from Víctor despite being relegated, after only two wins in the second half of the season.

In the summer of 2016, Víctor took over as coach at Olympiacos Piraeus . His predecessor, the Portuguese Marco Silva, surprisingly resigned from the Austrian summer training camp before the start of the season. Víctor missed qualifying for the Champions League with Olympiacos . After a 0: 0 in the first leg, they lost the second leg against the Israeli champions Hapoel Be'er Scheva with 0: 1. Víctor was replaced by the Portuguese Paulo Bento after just a few weeks .

On November 12, 2016, he succeeded Gustavo Poyet as coach at Betis Sevilla . Two game days before the end of the 2016/17 season , he was released in May 2017.

After almost two years without engagement, Víctor took over as coach at Malaga FC in April 2019 .
