The Vösendorfer Graben , also Vösendorfergraben , is a brook in the 13th district of Hietzing in Vienna . It is a feeder of the Lainzerbach .

course

The Vösendorfer Graben has a length of 2165 m with a height difference of 174 m. Its catchment area is 0.9 km². The stream runs in a west-east direction through the Lainzer Tiergarten nature reserve . It rises on the Kaltbründlberg and flows into the Lainzerbach in the 1.5 hectare Hohenauer pond.

history

The name Vösendorfer Graben refers to the fact that Vösendorf owned the Lainzer Tiergarten like other lords of the Vienna Basin with few forests. The Hohenau pond was artificially created between 1780 and 1825. The exact date and purpose of its installation are unknown.

ecology

The brook is a habitat of the pug bat ( Barbastella barbastellus ). In its lower reaches it runs through old field maple - hornbeam forests.

The Vösendorfer Graben is crossed by the following bridges, lined up in the direction of flow:

  • Holzplatzbrücke: The 7 m long and 6 m wide reinforced concrete road bridge on Hermesstrasse was built in 1983.
  • Teichhausbrücke I: The 7 m long and 5 m wide reinforced concrete road bridge on Hermesstrasse was built in 1949.
  • Teichhausbrücke II: The 5 m long and 4 m wide steel road bridge was built in 1940.
