NGC 3661 = IC 689 is a lens-shaped galaxy of the Hubble type S0 / a in the constellation Becher in the southern sky . It is an estimated 292 million light years from the Milky Way and about 140,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky is u. a. the galaxy NGC 3667 .
The object was discovered by Wilhelm Herschel on March 27, 1786 .
