NGC 3639 is a galaxy of Hubble type S? in the constellation Leo on the ecliptic . It is an estimated 240 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 40,000 light years in diameter.
The galaxies NGC 3626 , NGC 3659 , IC 685 are located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered on January 21, 1855 by the Irish astronomer RJ Mitchell , an assistant to William Parsons, 3rd Earl of Rosses .
