NGC 3647 is an elliptical galaxy of Hubble type E in the constellation Leo on the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 652 million light years from the Milky Way .
The object was discovered by Heinrich d'Arrest on March 22, 1865 . However, there seems to be considerable confusion as to which of the five galaxies Heinrich d'Arrest observed.
