NGC 3648 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type S0 in the constellation Great Bear in the northern sky . It is an estimated 89 million light years from the Milky Way and about 35,000 light years in diameter.
Together with NGC 3652 , NGC 3658 , NGC 3665 , PGC 35039 , PGC 35080 and PGC 35124 , it forms the NGC 3665 galaxy group .
The object was discovered by John Herschel on March 18, 1831 .
