NGC 3686 is a barred spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBbc in the constellation Leo at the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 49 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of 45,000 ly.

The object was discovered by Wilhelm Herschel on March 14, 1784 .
