NGC 3705 is an active barred spiral galaxy with extensive star formation from Hubble type SBab in the constellation Leo on the ecliptic . It is an estimated 41 million light years from the Milky Way and about 175,000 light years in diameter . The galaxy has an angular extent of 4.9 '× 2.0' and an apparent magnitude of 11.0 mag.
In the same area of ​​the sky are u. a. the galaxies IC 698 , IC 2876 , IC 2879 , IC 2887 .

The object was discovered by Wilhelm Herschel on January 18, 1784 .
