NGC 3729 is a bar-spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBa / P in the constellation Great Bear in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 50 million light-years from the Milky Way and about 45,000 light-years across. 
The galaxy NGC 3718 is located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered by Wilhelm Herschel on April 12, 1789 .
