NGC 3733 is a bar-spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBb in the constellation Great Bear in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 56 million light years from the Milky Way and about 80,000 light years in diameter.
The galaxies NGC 3737 , NGC 3738 , NGC 3759 , IC 2943 are located in the same area of the sky .
The type IIP supernova SN 1980D was observed here.
The object was discovered by Wilhelm Herschel on April 14, 1789 .
