IC 679 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type S in the constellation cup south of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 231 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 60,000 light years in diameter.

In the same area of ​​the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 3591 and IC 2668 .

The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on May 13, 1893 .
