IC 679 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type S in the constellation cup south of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 231 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 60,000 light years in diameter.
In the same area of the sky are u. a. the galaxies NGC 3591 and IC 2668 .
The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on May 13, 1893 .
