from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Vendée Les Herbiers Football or VF Les Herbiers for short is a football club from the small town of Les Herbiers in the Vendée in western France . The club's first team was promoted to the semi-professional third division in the 2015/16 season . In 2018, the team reached the finals of the national cup competition for the first time in the club's history.

history

The club has its historical roots in the Alouette Sportive , which belongs to the Catholic sports movement and was founded in 1919 - named after the Mont des Alouettes near Les Herbiers  - which was renamed Les Herbiers Sports early on and in which other sports beyond football could be played. However, the footballers did not take part in the league until the 1930s. In 1949, Les Herbiers Sports merged with a neighboring club called Coqs du Bocage ; the merger club was named Entente Sportive Herbretaise and became a member of the Fédération Française de Football . In 2002 the name was changed to Les Herbiers Vendée Football , four years later the club took on its name, which is still valid today.

The club colors are red and black. The league eleven play their home games in the Stade Massabielle , which has a capacity of around 3,000 seats and also has a small grandstand. In 2014 a wing was added to the stadium, which houses new changing rooms and the club's office.

League affiliation and successes of the footballers

In 1974 the ES Les Herbiers fighting team rose to the Division d'Honneur for the first time, and in 1977 even moved to the fourth-highest division. In the 1980s and 1990s, however, it sank again in the lowlands of the lower regional leagues. This only changed from 1998 with the promotion to the fifth division (CFA 2) . After a decade of commuting between fourth and fifth league, 2015 saw the first ascent in the club's history to the third-highest division in France .

In the national cup competition for the Coupe de France , the soccer players, also known as the “Red Devils” (Diables Rouges) , have reached the national main round five times. They advanced the furthest in the 2017/18 season , in which they reached the final. For attractive games, Les Herbiers regularly moves to the Stade Henri-Desgrange, which can accommodate around 6,500 spectators , in La Roche-sur-Yon, a good 40 kilometers away, or to the Beaujoire of Nantes .
