VIXX (Korean: 빅스, acronym for Voice, Visual, Value in Excelsis) is a South Korean boy band that is under contract with Jellyfish Entertainment. The band members were chosen through audience votes on the Korean broadcaster Mnet's reality show , MyDOL. The band members of VIXX are: N , Leo , Ken , Ravi , Hongbin and Hyuk .
Band history
Before the debut
Before the group was formed, ten candidates participated in the MyDol show, which first aired on April 12, 2012 on Mnet . In the show, all participants had to carry out various missions and activities in order to convince the chairmen of the Jellyfish Entertainment label as well as the viewers of their abilities and to join a new band that was later named VIXX.
Cha Hakyeon (N), Jung Taekwoon (Leo) , Lee Jaehwan (Ken), Kim Wonsik (Ravi), Lee Hongbin (Hongbin), Han SangHyuk (Hyuk), Ro Nakhun, Shin Yoonchul, Lee Byoungjun and Daewon took part. The last four candidates were eliminated; thus the remaining six participants formed the band VIX, which is an acronym for Voice, Visual, Value in Excelsis. For visual reasons an X has been added. That's what the band has been called VIXX since their debut. On May 24, 2012 they performed together for the first time in the music show M! Countdown to.
2012: Super Hero and Rock Your Body
On May 24th, VIXX released their first single called Super Hero . The music video of the title song of the same name was released the day before.
The second single, Rock Ur Body , was released on August 14th and VIXX performed at KCON 2012 on October 13th.
VIXX were part of the Jellyfish Winter Project, Jelly Christmas 2012 Heart Project. Together with Lee Seok Hoon, Park Hyo Shin , Seo In Guk and Shi Kyung they released the song Because It's Christmas on December 5th .
2013: Don't Want to be an Idol, On and On, Jekyll and Voodoo
On January 6th, Don't Want to be an Idol (아이돌 하기 싫어) was pre-released from their third single I'm Ready to Get Hurt . The title track On and On and the single itself was released on January 17th.
With Hyde Vixx first mini album was released on 20 May. The title track GR8.U (대. 다. 나. 다. 너 (You.Are.Im.pressive)) from the repackage album 'Jekyll' was released on July 31 and immediately rose to number one on the online music charts of Bugs, Naver Music and Soribada.
The single 'Y.BIRD with VIXX and OKDAL' was released on October 11th. The two songs 'Girls Why?' and 'I'm A Boy, You're A Girl' recorded VIXX with OKDAL, who also wrote the lyrics with Ravi.
The song 'Only U' from VIXX's upcoming first studio album 'Voodoo' was released on November 8th. The title track 'Voodoo Doll' was released on November 20th and the album on November 25th. On December 6th, VIXX won for the first time since their debut on the weekly episode of the show Music Bank .
Also in 2013 Jellyfish Entertainment brought out a Christmas song in which VIXX also played alongside Sung Si Kyung, Park Hyo Shin , Seo In Guk and Little Sister. Winter Confession stayed on the Billboard K-Pop Hot 100 and Gaon Charts for two weeks.
2014: Eternity, Darkest Angels and Error
The comeback of VIXX, announced on March 5th, came on May 18th with the song of the same name from their fourth single 'Eternity'. A first teaser of the accompanying music video was released on May 22nd, the entire video and album on May 27th.
On July 2nd, VIXX made their debut in Japan with the album 'Darkest Angels', which includes most of their previously released songs.
On June 20th it was announced that VIXX would perform for the second time at KCON on August 9th and 10th.
On September 25th, Jellyfish Entertainment announced a comeback of VIXX on October 14th. The title track 'Error' and the tracklist of their second mini-album was released on October 4th. The teaser video was released on October 10th and the full video along with the album on October 14th.
On December 10th, the Japanese version of 'Error' was released. This consists of the Japanese version of the two songs 'Error' and 'Youth Hurts'.
2015: Boys' Record and sub-unit VIXX LR
On February 24th, the EP "Boys' Record" was released with the song Love Equation . The music video was released along with the album.
VIXX LR is the first sub-unit of the band VIXX and consists of the main vocalist Leo and rapper Ravi . The two made their debut on August 17th with their first mini-album "Beautiful Liar". The songs were composed either by Leo or Ravi or by both. They also wrote the lyrics themselves.
2016: Boys' Record and sub-unit VIXX LR
On January 27th, VIXX's first Japanese studio album Depend on Me was released.
The year 2016 was marked by a very extraordinary project that VIXX announced shortly after the beginning of spring. With 2016 CONCEPTION the guys delivered a kind of film that began to introduce the three related songs for that year. Under the concept of a divine story, the so-called Concept-dols have once again proven how well they are masters of their subject. There were different teasers for each release and in the end the 3 main releases of the year resulted in a coherent story. The third and final video contains most of the story. In chronological order, the videos Dynamite> Fantasy> The Closer belong to this three-part series. A separate drama version has also been published for the second music video, which gives a few more conclusions about the plot, but does not essentially help to understand the overall picture. To understand the plot through the videos just watch them in reverse order.
On November 21, 2016, VIXX released the compilation album VIXX 2016 Conception Ker along with the music video for the new song "Milky Way", which marks the end of the VIXX 2016 CONCEPTION project.
The album was No. 2 on the Gaon Albums Chart and sold 18,082 times in November.
2017: Shangri-La and 5th anniversary
On May 15, 2017 VIXX released their fourth mini-album Shangri-La . It was part of the VIXX V FESTIVAL to celebrate their 5th anniversary. The festival started on May 12th with their VIXX Live Fantasia Daydream concert and ended with the exhibition VIXX 0524.
Shangri-La was # 2 on the Gaon Album Charts, # 3 on the Taiwanese FIVE-Music Korea-Japan Album Charts and # 4 on the Billboard World Album Charts. Shangri-La sold a total of 73,116 units in May.
2018: Eau de VIXX and 6th anniversary
On April 17th, 2018, the 3rd studio album Eau de VIXX with the lead single "Scentist" (Korean: 향) was released. The English title is composed of "Scent" and "Artist". The album landed at number 1 on the Gaon Weekly Album Charts.
The group gave two concerts in Seoul in May under the title VIXX LIVE LOST FANTASIA . This not only celebrated the new album, but also the 6th anniversary of the group.
