Cha Hak-yeon ( Korean 차 학연 , born June 30, 1990 in Changwon , South Korea ), better known as N ( Korean 엔), is a South Korean singer, actor and presenter who is under contract with Jellyfish Entertainment . He made his debut in May 2012 as the leader of the South Korean boy band VIXX . In 2014 he started his acting career in the MBC TV drama Hotel King as Noah . He has since had roles in The Family is Coming (2015), Cheer Up! (2015), Tomorrow Boy (2016), What's Up With These Kids? (2016) and Tunnel (2017). He started his career as a radio presenter in May 2015 with his own show VIXX N K-Pop on SBS Power FM .

Life

Cha Hak-yeon was born in Changwon, South Korea; he has an older brother and two older sisters. He studied at Howon University and lived in Japan for a year . Before making his debut with VIXX , he starred in a musical called Gwanghwamun Love Song and participated in dance competitions. He has already gained a lot of dance experience and can dance hip-hop and ballet as well as jazz and contemporary dances . In 2009 he took part in numerous competitions organized by major entertainment companies such as SM Entertainment , YG Entertainment and JYP Entertainment . His blindfolded dance, which he choreographed himself, won the main prize at the Korean Youth Dance Festival .

Career

2012–2013: Debut with VIXX and appearances on TV shows

N was one of ten apprentices who were voted into the Mnet reality show MyDOL and ultimately became part of the final line-up of the new boy group VIXX . The group had with Super Hero on May 24, 2012 on M! Countdown her debut. During MyDOL , he was featured in Brian Joo's music video for Let This Die and Seo In-guk's music video for Shake It Up .

In 2012, after debuting with VIXX, he became part of the cast of the second season of the TVN reality show The Romantic & Idol .

In 2013 he choreographed the title song of the VIXX mini album Hyde . Shortly thereafter, he was seen, together with VIXX, in episode 4 of the SBS TV drama The Heirs . In the same year he was also responsible for the VIXX choreography for her song Light Up the Darkness and the choreography for her performance for the Justin Timberlake song LoveStoned on the TV show Dancing 9 .

2014–2015: Big Byung, acting debut, moderation and radio show

In 2014, N was featured in many TV shows such as the Mnet TV show 4 Things Show , the TVN TV show First Day of Work Season 3 and the MBC Every 1 show Hitmaker. In Hitmaker, he became part of the Big Byung project group founded by Jeong Hyeong-don and Defconn . Members of the group were also Hyuk , Jackson from the boy group Got7 and Sungjae from the boy group BtoB . Under the stage name Dol Baeki he released the two singles Stress Come On and Ojingeo Doenjang (Hangul: 오징어 된장) with the group .

He made his acting debut in the MBC TV drama Hotel King in the supporting role of hotel clerk Noah . Shortly thereafter, he was seen with Hongbin as a background dancer in K.Will , Mamamoo and Wheesung's music video for Peppermint Chocolate .

In 2015 he was part of the cast of his second TV drama The Familiy Is Coming with the role of Cha Hak-yeon and he starred in the TV drama Running Man along with other K-pop stars. Shortly thereafter, he joined the cast of the MBC Every 1 TV show Bachelor's Party . From April 25, 2015 to November 14, 2015 he was the presenter of the MBC TV show Show! Together with Minho from the boy group SHINee and Yeri from the girl group Red Velvet ! Music Core to see. On May 2, 2015, N's own radio show VIXX N K-pop premiered with him as the presenter and Ken as a permanent guest. He was also a regular guest on the radio show Super Junior Kiss the Radio .

On July 7, 2015, N starred on the JTBC TV show Off to School . There he attended Hyundai Chungun High School in Ulsan , South Korea, for three days . In late July he was shooting for the SBS TV show Law of the Jungle in Nicaragua , which aired in September. In August 2015 he was seen as the presenter of the TV show Weekly Idol together with Mina from the girl group AOA and Ha-young from the girl group Apink . From September 2, 2015 to March 24, 2016, he hosted the show together with its main hosts Jeong Hyeong-don and Defconn . In September 2015 he was Ha Dong-jae in the KBS drama Cheer Up! to see.

2016 – today: web drama, OST and musical debut

In March 2016, N starred Ahn Tae-pyung in the web drama Tomorrow Boy . On 7 September 2016 he published together with Yeoeun from the girl group Melody Day the song Without You (kor. 니 가 없는 난) for the OST of the TV drama W . In the same month he starred in the web drama What's Up With These Kids? With Hongbin and Chanmi from the girl group AOA . With. It began airing on November 16 on Naver TV Cast . From December 20, 2016 to February 12, 2017, he played the lead role of Benny in the musical In The Heights at the CJ Towol Theater in the Seoul Arts Center .
