Kim Ye-rim (born March 5, 1999 in Seoul , South Korea ), better known by her stage name Yeri , is a South Korean singer. She is a member of the South Korean girl group Red Velvet .

Early life

Yeri was born on March 5, 1999 in the South Korean capital, Seoul. She has three younger sisters: Yoo-rim, Ye-eun and Chae-eun, the latter being 13 years younger than her. She attended the Hanlim Multi Art School and was best in class thanks to her outstanding achievements. In 2018 she finally graduated from school despite frequent absence. Her English name has been Katy since she was a child.

Career

Before the debut: SM rookies

While still in elementary school, she was signed by SM Entertainment in 2011 after a successful audition in which she only performed songs from the competing agency JYP Entertainment . In August 2014 she was officially introduced as a member of the SM training team SM Rookies and made her first appearance in the music video of the song Happiness of her future group Red Velvet. She spent 4 years preparing for her subsequent debut as the youngest member of the successful girl group.

Red Velvet and Solo Activities

On March 10, 2015 , Yeri was officially introduced as a new member of Red Velvet, ahead of the Ice Cream Cake mini album announcement . From May 9 to 14 November in the same year she hosted along with Minho from the group Shinee and N of the group Vixx the music show radio station MBC named show! Music Core . In July 2016 she appeared in a leading role in the music video of the song Way Back Home by the artists J-Min and Shim Eun-jee as part of the SM Station project . In the same year she hosted the internet show The Viewable SM together with Leeteuk from the Super Junior group . In December 2017 the song Story by the singer Ragoon , which was composed and written by Yeri, was released.

In April 2018, it was confirmed that Yeri would be part of the new entertainment show Secret Unnie along with Han Chae-young . On December 13, she also took part in the third season of her company's music project SM Station with Renjun , Jeno and Jaemin from the NCT group. The single's music video , the Korean version of Hair in the Air, and South Korea's official soundtracks for the TV series Trolls: The Beat Goes On! , was published on YouTube . On March 14, 2019, the music video for Yeris' first self-composed solo project entitled Dear Diary was also released as part of the music project.
