history

Family tree of VR Bank Main-Kinzig-Büdingen eG

After the Spar- und Leihkasse Büdingen was established in 1840, the first cooperative bank in the region was founded in 1862 with the “Spar- und Leihkasse” in Altenstadt. It was the first predecessor bank of today's VR Bank Main-Kinzig-Büdingen eG. In the years that followed, a large number of local cooperative banks emerged. In particular, the Prussian cooperative law of 1867, which was imitated in many German states, encouraged the start-ups.

In 1937, the first of 56 mergers on the way to today's bank took place in Ostheim. In 1972, the “ four-eyes principle ” was introduced into the Banking Act and the Cooperative Society Act. A large number of small cooperative banks then had to join forces with others. In the area of today's Büdinger Volksbank, too, a wave of mergers between Volks- and Raiffeisenbanks took place at community level. In the 90s, further mergers took place to reduce costs. Until then, there were often only mergers at the community level, but supra-local mergers are now being carried out. Examples are the associations of Büdingen, Altenstadt and Gedern, Schotten and Nidda, Langenselbold and Nidderau, North Spessart and Freigericht as well as Bad Soden-Salmünster and Wächtersbach. In the period that followed, there were further mergers of medium-sized and sub-centers up to today's VR Bank Main-Kinzig-Büdingen eG.
