VSC 1862 Donauwörth

The VSC 1862 Donauwörth is a sports club in Donauwörth . The women's team in the table tennis department played in the Bundesliga in the 1970s and 1980s .

There are around 1700 members, making it the largest sports club in town. The club was created on January 1st, 1971 through the merger of the "Turnverein Donauwörth" founded in 1862 (later "Sport-Club 1880 Donauwörth") and the "Verein für Leibesübungen Donauwörth" founded in 1927. President of the VSC has been Alfred Böswald († 2018) since January 1, 1971 .

Departments

In addition to the table tennis department, there are departments for badminton, basketball, judo, ice sports, fencing, handball, bowling, athletics, swimming, skiing, dancing, gymnastics and volleyball.

The men's A-team split off from VSC Donauwörth in 2008 as "FC Donauwörth 08" and has been an independent club ever since. The women's team as well as the youth teams still belong to the VSC.

Table tennis

In 1948 a table tennis club was founded in Donauwörth, which later joined the VSC 1862 Donauwörth. One of the co-founders is Hans Natterer. and Josef Hermann.

The TT department (member of the Bavarian Table Tennis Association ) is assigned to the Swabian district and the Dillingen / Donau-Ries district.

Women's team

The women's team was the most successful. In 1973 she rose from the Oberliga in the line- up of Sieglinde Prell , Evi Natterer and Resi Ried to the then two-part 1. Bundesliga . Two years later, it was one of the founding clubs of the one-piece Bundesliga. Here she stayed until the 1990/91 season. The best placements were 3rd place in the 1982/83, 1987/88 and 1989/90 seasons as well as the German runner-up in the 1988/89 season.

Between 1976 and 1988 the women won the South German team championship eleven times. They took part in the ETTU Nancy Evans Cup twice: in 1988/89 they reached the quarter-finals, a year later they failed in the semi-finals.

After the 1990/91 season, the club withdrew the women's team from the Bundesliga and began to rebuild the national league. Today (2007) the team plays in the top league.

Well-known players were Maria Alexandru , Cao Yanhua , Nicole Dekein , Ulrike Aichele , Jana Eberle , Cornelia Faltermaier , Monika Sedlmair , Annette Greisinger , Rose Diebold , Elke Schall , Carole Knight and Inge Natterer .

Men's team

In the 1970s and 1980s, the men played at times in the upper league, at that time the second highest German division.
