Vadodara is a district in the western Indian state of Gujarat .
The area is 7,546 km². The administrative seat is the city of the same name, Vadodara . In 2013, the Chhota Udaipur district was spun off from Vadodara.
history
The district was once the center of the princely state of Baroda .
population
The population is 4,165,626 (2011). The population growth rate in the period from 2001 to 2011 was 14.38%. Vadodara has a gender ratio of 934 women per 1000 men. It had a literacy rate of 78.92% in 2011, an increase of eight percentage points compared to 2001. Almost 90% of the population are Hindus and around 9% are Muslims .
The urbanization rate of the district is around 50%. 1.8 million people live in the fast growing agglomeration of the city of Vadodara.
