Valentin Jamerey-Duval (born April 25, 1695 in Arthonnay in Champagne, † November 3, 1775 in Vienna ) was a French numismatist .

Live and act

Jamerey-Duval was the son of a Wagner who grew up with his brother-in-law after his father's death. He developed a self-taught knowledge of astronomy and geography, later studied at the University of Pont-à-Mousson and was hired by Duke Leopold of Lorraine, first as a librarian, then as a history lecturer at the Knight's Academy in Lunéville . He followed Franz III. Stephan after his acquisition of the title of Grand Duke of Tuscany to Florence , where he was librarian in the Palazzo Pitti . Eventually Jamerey-Duval became the overseer of the medal and coin cabinet in Vienna under Emperor Franz I.
