Valentin Joseph Werthmüller (* 23. May 1799 in Fulda , † 16th April 1882 ibid ) was a German jurist . Werthmüller was a member of the Hessian Estates Assembly from 1831 to 1832 and of the Frankfurt National Assembly from 1848 to 1849 .
Life
Valentin Joseph Werthmüller was the son of the linen dealer Caspar Werthmüller. His mother Catharina was a born calf. Werthmüller studied law at the University of Göttingen and the University of Marburg from 1817 to 1821 . In 1821 he was accepted into the Hessian judicial service, initially as a court trainee , later as a court assessor at the Fulda High Court .
From 1831 to 1832 Werthmüller was a member of the Electoral Hessian Estates Assembly, the 1st state parliament, as a representative for the cities of Schaumburg and successor to Christian Wiederhold . In the state parliament he belonged to the liberal majority. Also in 1833, in the 3rd state parliament, he was elected as a member of the Kurhessische estates assembly for the cities of Schaumburg, but received no mandate from the Kurhessischen government. From 1833 he was senior judge at the Rinteln Higher Court and from 1835 at the Fulda Higher Court.
When uprisings broke out in Kurhessen in early 1848 as a result of the February Revolution , Werthmüller took part in leading protests against the Kurhessian government in April 1848. In the same month he became a member of the People's Council of Fulda. The voters of the 9th constituency in Kurhessen, which included the city of Fulda, elected Werthmüller as a member of the Frankfurt National Assembly, of which he was a member from May 18, 1848 to May 30, 1849. He remained non-attached, but joined the Left Center in votes. In March 1849 he elected Friedrich Wilhelm IV of Prussia as Emperor of the Germans.
In 1850 the Hessian government suspended him because of revolutionary activities, but later reinstated Werthmüller as a senior judge in Fulda. He died on April 16, 1882, at the age of 82, in his native city of Fulda. Valentin Joseph Werthmüller was married to Marie Adelmann, the daughter of the medical councilor Vinzenz Adelmann .
