history

From 1816 to 1866 the Hessian Higher Court of Fulda existed as a court of second instance. It was responsible for the province of Fulda , i.e. the districts of Hersfeld , Marburg , Hanau and Schmalkalden . As courts of first instance, 15 judicial offices were subordinate to it. In 1849, the Rotenburg Higher Court was also set up, which was now responsible for nine of the previously Fulda and eight previously assigned to Kassel justice offices. However, as early as 1851 this higher court was dissolved and the higher court of Fulda got its previous judicial district back.

After the German War in 1866, Electorate Hesse was annexed by Prussia . By ordinance of 1867 the higher court was dissolved and Fulda received a Prussian district court . When the judiciary was reorganized by the Reich Justice Act of 1879, the district court was moved to Hanau instead of Fulda.

It was not until November 1, 1949 that Fulda received today's regional court by a decree by the Hessian Minister of Justice. Its district was formed from the districts of Fulda-Stadt, Fulda-Land, Hersfeld, Hünfeld, Lauterbach (with the exception of Ulrichstein) with the district courts of Fulda and Hünfeld (previously to LG Hanau), Bad Hersfeld (previously to LG Kassel) and the district court Lauterbach (previously to LG Gießen).
