Valentine Atem Fondongbeze (born August 26, 1978 in Kumba , Sud Province , Cameroon ), called Vallygoal , is a Cameroonian football player . The striker is currently under contract with Tiko United .

Breath can be used on the offensive both behind the tips and on the left or right side. He is therefore considered a versatile attacker.

Life

Origin, childhood and youth

Valentine Atem comes from a polygamous family from Buea and was the third of his mother's six children. After starting to play soccer as a child, he was well known in school soccer at the age of eleven.

His youth club, Les Brasseries du Cameroon , hosted the Top Cup , a youth tournament in which Breath was both voted best player and top scorer when he took part. After these successes, the second division Olympic Muyuka signed the 18-year-old in 1997 .

Advancement in Cameroon

In his first season with Muyuka, Atem was the top scorer in the Cameroonian second division with 27 goals . Then he signed the also second-rate playing club Victoria Shooting Stars of Limbe , where he was again one of the most successful goal scorers. During this time, Atem was also appointed to the Cameroonian youth selection, in which he remained a reservist and for which he never played a competitive game.

With the then promoted Kumbo Strikers , Atem played his first season in the Cameroonian Première Division in the 1999 calendar year and occupied eleventh of 16 places in the table with his club. From 2000 he played for Mount Cameroon FC , which came from his hometown Buea and with whom he initially played in the second division; from 2001 you played in the Première Division . In 2002, Atem won the two most important national trophies with his club, the Cameroon Coupe and the Super Coupe Roger Milla . Thanks to his skill level, he was appointed captain of the team at this time . In the league, the team was sixth in 2001 and 2002, respectively, and in 2003 they finished fifth.

At international level, Atem competed with Mount Cameroon in 2003 in the African Cup Winners' Cup , in which his team was eliminated in the second round against Asante Kotoko from Ghana . His later as "brilliant" game in these games sparked a feud about him between Asante and his national rival Obuasi Goldfields , which ultimately resulted in a club change to Obuasi.

Premier League in Ghana

After joining Obuasi Goldfields in 2003, Valentine Atem was soon recognized as one of the best strikers in Ghana's Premier League . At times, at the suggestion of some officials of the Ghana Football Association, he also wanted to take citizenship of the country in order to play for the national team. Breath, whose mother tongue is English , was not considered for the Cameroonian selection . According to his own statement, he got the impression of an “exclusion of English speakers” in the Cameroon national team. After Ghana for the 2006 World Cup in Germany had qualified for breath coming coach Ratomir Dujković not for the World Cup squad of Ghanaians in question, and he rejected the plans to change his nationality.

Breath suffered many injuries during his time at Ashanti. His contract, which expired at the end of 2004, was extended to December 31, 2006. After this period he left the club.

Germany and Azerbaijan

In January after the expiry of Valentine Atem's contract, the German second division club Eintracht Braunschweig signed him as part of the Elf Siege campaign for the second division , with which the club, at risk of relegation at the time, wanted to stay in the 2nd Bundesliga. By the end of the 2006/07 season , Atem played 13 league games for Braunschweig, in which he scored three goals. The club rose at the end of the season from bottom of the table in the regional league , whereupon breath left him.

For the 2007/08 season Valentine Atem stayed in Germany and joined the second division club SV Wehen Wiesbaden , to which Benjamin Siegert and Patrick Bick also moved from Eintracht Braunschweig . Atems compatriot Carl Lombé was also under contract with the Wiesbaden team until December 2007. Although he was seen as the newcomer's hope at the start of the season, breath in labor was only able to establish himself as a wild card and showed fluctuating performance. He contributed to eighth place in the table with three goals in 21 appearances.

His contract, which expired in 2008 after a year, was not extended, whereupon he joined the league competitor of Wehener MSV Duisburg , who had just been relegated from the Bundesliga . He initially signed a contract with the zebras until the end of the 2008/09 season . After he had not been able to prevail in Duisburg with six short appearances, he changed clubs again in January 2009 and joined the Azerbaijani first division club Neftçi Baku . With the black and white he reached eighth league place at the end of the season six months later.

Cameroon

On November 20, 2010, he returned to his native Cameroon and signed with Tiko United . There he was the club's player of the year and the top scorer in his first season.
