Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets Original Score is a double album with the music for the film Valerian - Die Stadt der Tausendplanets (original title Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets ), a science fiction film by Luc Besson from 2017 A large part of the film music was composed by Alexandre Desplat . The soundtrack includes pieces by a number of other artists. The double album was released on July 21, 2017 by EuropaCorp.

The French composer and Oscar winner Alexandre Desplat took on the work on the score for the science fiction film Valerian - The City of a Thousand Planets by Luc Besson . The recording took place on February 24, 2017 in Studio 104 of the Maison de la Radio in Paris. Desplat conducted 95 musicians from the Orchester National de France from Radio France and 49 singers from the Chœurs de Radio France .

The soundtrack consists of the film music, new pop songs and already known pieces. The soundtrack contains tracks by David Bowie , Bob Marley , Charles Bradley and a few other artists.

From February 20 to 28, 2017, the Maison de la Radio, which houses the French radio station Radio France, had already held concerts in which compositions by Desplat were played, including excerpts from the music for Valerian - The City of a Thousand Planets . These concerts were broadcast on the station's morning show. The double album with the score consists of 32 tracks, which were released on 2 CDs by EuropaCorp on July 21, 2017.

The first CD contains pieces from Alexandre Desplat's film music. The second CD does not include all eleven pop songs that appear in the film. In addition to selected songs by well-known artists, the second CD contains pop songs that were composed especially for the film. Besides Bubble Dance by Julien Rey (produced by DJ Mustard ) there are two other originals . Firstly, the song A Million on My Soul by singer Alexiane , which was released as a single in May 2017 and is used during the film credits . On the other hand the song I Feel Everything , interpreted by Cara Delevingne . Compared with USA Today was pleased Delevingne at the fact that her name on the title list for the double CD between those of David Bowie and Bob Marley is to be read. Delevingne also said the song was inspired by the feeling that when you fall in love you are vulnerable and you feel everything for the first time. The film's female lead made her debut as a singer with the song.

Sam Reed of The Hollywood Reporter says the song I Feel Everything from Cara Delevingne , they present the lilting melody in a way that sounded refreshing, as if it were without post, digital pitch correction got along. The song A Million on My Soul by Alexiane was loud Angelica Florio of Bustle a futuristic feast for the ears, and the electronic piece with the heavy beat and the futuristic sounds is pretty much perfect for the film.
