Valhalla is located in the south of the state of New York, bordered to the east by Kensico Reservoir , to the west by Sprain Brook Parkway and is around 40 kilometers north of central New York City .
history
Based on local tradition, the name of a newly established post office was sought in the area around 1860. Since the wife of the post office manager was a great admirer of the works of the composer Richard Wagner and particularly appreciated his tetralogy The Ring of the Nibelung , in which the Nordic mythology with the great hall of the dead ( Valhalla ) plays an essential role, the place was named Valhalla .
Valhalla later developed into a quiet residential area for commuters to the nearby metropolis of New York City.
