Valletta International Baroque Festival

The Valletta International Baroque Festival is one of the largest music festivals in Malta . The programmatic focus is on baroque music .

history

The Valletta International Baroque Festival has been held annually in January since it was founded in 2013 and is organized by the management of the Teatru Manoel . The concerts and opera performances are presented in various baroque buildings in the city of Valletta . Renowned artists who have performed at this festival so far include Mahan Esfahani , Philippe Herreweghe , Christophe Rousset and Jordi Savall .

On January 26, 2017, a world premiere took place for the first time during the Valletta International Baroque Festival in the Teatru Manoel under the motto Inspired by Baroque with the performance of Reuben Paces Concertino for guitar , harpsichord and orchestra . Participants were the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Michelle Castelletti and the soloists Johanna Beisteiner (guitar) and Joanne Camilleri (harpsichord). The artistic framework of the festival was thus expanded beyond its other focus on music from the 17th to 18th centuries. Century expanded to contemporary music influenced by baroque works.
