Valner Franković (born July 9, 1968 in Raša ) is a former Croatian handball player .

Career

Valner Franković began playing handball in fourth grade. At first he was a handball goalkeeper , at the age of 14 he moved to the left wing . In 1987, the first division club RK Zamet Rijeka noticed him and signed him. After four years in Rijeka , he went to the German second division club VfL Günzburg in 1991 . After half a year he returned to Croatia, where he played again for the second division team Rudar and Rijeka. When Rudar rose to the Premijer Liga in 1993 (without him) , he signed with the top club Badel 1862 Zagreb , with whom he won the championship and cup in 1994 and 1995 and reached the final in the EHF Champions League in 1994/95, in which he won the Spanish Bidasoa Irun was defeated. The next three seasons he ran for Karlovacka Banka . After two years in Italy, he let his career end with his home club.

With the Croatian national team , Valner Franković won the gold medal at the 1996 Olympic Games and the 1997 Mediterranean Games.

Others

After the end of his career, Franković returned to Labin , where he and his wife run a coffee bar and holiday apartments.
