Van Maanen's star (also Van Maanen 2 ) is a white dwarf in the constellation Pisces discovered in 1917 by Adriaan van Maanen . At a distance of about 14 light years, it is the third closest known white dwarf after Sirius B and Prokyon B and the closest that is not part of a multiple system. The possible existence of a substellar companion has been suggested several times but remains unconfirmed.
