Kreidler has made its series engines available to Kreidler Florett for the Moto Cup races since 1958 . In 1961 the European Cup was announced for racing machines up to 50 cm³, Hans Georg Anscheidt became European champion with the modified Kreidler engines (omission of the cooling fan, two plate rotary valves with two carburetors, four-speed gearbox with manual three-stage countershaft transmission). The engine output was specified as 12 hp at 13,000 rpm, the top speed at 135 km / h.

In 1968 Hendrik Van Veen took over the development of the racing machines for Kreidler. Yet rendered air-cooled engine of the 68 developed by Jörg Möller, 14 horsepower at 14,000 min -1 . In 1969, water cooling was used and a six-speed gearbox was used. The power grew to 16 hp at 14,500 rpm and the top speed was specified as 160 km / h. The world champion machine, continuously developed from 1971 to 1978, last achieved an output of 22.5 hp at 17,000 rpm, equipped with an electronic ignition from Kröber and Mahle forged pistons. Depending on the gear ratio and the corresponding engine tuning, top speeds of up to 200 km / h were possible for the racing machine, which weighs almost 60 kg. Eugenio Lazzarini achieved a top speed of over 210 km / h on a 50 cm³ racing motorcycle on the Spa straight . Due to the low displacement and maximum torque development, the drivers only had a usable speed range of just 900 rpm at the highest engine speed.

As early as 1968 Kreidler Van Veen offered a racing set for private drivers (different cylinders, pistons and Dell'Orto carburettors as well as resonance exhaust ) that achieved an output of 9.5 hp at 12,500 rpm. In 1973 the rotary valve-controlled replica engine made 14 hp, in 1977 there was a commercially available racing machine with 18 hp, always a few hp less than the factory machine.

Herbert Rittberger made a name for himself as a driver and tuner in the mid-1970s. In 1977 he took over the development of the Van Veen factory engines. The company RIMOTU (Rittberger Motoren Tuning), which he founded in 1982, continued to develop and process Kreidler engines after Van Veen left the company; Krauser acted as a sponsor.

Rotary motorcycle

In 1976 Van Veen presented a heavy motorcycle with a twin-disc rotary engine and an output of 100 hp (73.6 kW), the Van Veen OCR 1000 . The so-called Birotor from Comotor was a further development from the NSU Ro 80 and was also used in the Citroën GS Birotor .

The machine was built in Duderstadt . The engine had a chamber volume of 2 times 498 cm³ and developed 100 HP (74 kW) at 6500 rpm. The engine power was transmitted to the rear wheel via a cardan shaft . The top speed was 213 km / h, the fuel consumption 15 ltr / 100 km. In 1976 the motorcycle was offered in Germany for 24,200  DM .
