The Varese Pre-Alps are in Italy in the northern part of the province of Varese and in Switzerland in the Mendrisiotto , in the Luganese and in the Locarnese in the canton of Ticino .
The highest peak is Monte Tamaro ( 1967 m above sea level ) in Ticino. According to the SOIUSA classification, they are a subsection of the Lugano Prealps .
