VdS medal
The VdS medal was awarded by the Vereinigung der Sternfreunde (VdS) once a year from 1999 to 2009 for work earned in the field of amateur astronomy . The award was replaced by the German Prize for Astronomy .
The medal was accompanied by a cash prize and a public award.

- 1999: Michael Jäger, Vienna , for the discovery of his comet Jäger (Komet) (1998 U3).
- 2000: Walter Kutschera, Vogelsberg , for the longstanding organization of the International Telescope Meeting Vogelsberg (ITV).
- 2001: Wolfgang Lille, Bremen , for his sun photos that have been outstanding for decades
- 2002: Bernd Flach-Wilken , Wirges , for his contributions to astrophotography .
- 2003: Martin Mayer, Violau , for the establishment and operation of the Violau public observatory .
- 2004: Georg Dittié, Bonn , for his public domain program Giotto .
- 2005: Joachim Herrmann , Recklinghausen , for decades of popular education in the field of amateur astronomy.
- 2006: Hans-Günter Diederich, Darmstadt , for his many years of work in the field of amateur astronomy.
- 2007: Werner Braune, Berlin , for his decades of work in the field of variable stars.
- 2008: Sonja Enke, Windhoek ( Namibia ) for the development of Namibian amateur astronomy.
